Has it erupted?

Yes. Mauna Loa has erupted many times. When eruption occurs, rivers of lava appear and destroys anything closeby. One of the most famous eruptions was in 1950. June 1st, 1950, to be exact. This eruption was approximately one year after its last eruption. May 29, at 3:17 p.m. an earthquake shook the ground damaging water tanks and walls. This earthquake signaled volcanic activity and a not so far ahead eruption. A seismograph is an instrument used to predict, measure, and record vibrations of earthquakes. On a Hawaiin seismograph, at 9:04 p.m., they saw a volcanic tremor. 6 minutes later, a couple reported hearing a rumbling sound. This eruption lasted for 23 days and the over-flowing lava consumed many buildings and homes.

Mauna Loa

What is the "MAUNA LOA"?
The "Mauna Loa" is the world's largest volcano and one of the most active. It is also a shield volcano, which I explained on the shield volcano page. This volcano is about 600,000 to 1,000,000 years old. It is located in South Kona, Hawaii.
